INTERNAL MEDICINE FACULTY
David J. Shaw, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Shaw received his M.D. degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and subsequently served as a Clinical Fellow in cardiovascular physiology at the National Institutes of Health prior to entering a fellowship in Clinical Cardiology at UCSD School of Medicine. Dr. Shaw has been in the private practice of Cardiology and Internal Medicine for 30 years. He received his M.B.A., degree at San Diego State University in 2002. Dr. Shaw has served as Medical Director and immediate past Chief of Staff of Scripps Mercy Hospital, where his interests include implementation of evidence-based practice in cardiovascular disease, management of congestive heart failure and implementation of an integrated clinical information system across the continuum of care. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American College of Cardiology. In July 2004, Dr. Shaw accepted the position of Director of Graduate Medical Education.
Stanley A. Amundson, M.D., F.A.C.P.

Dr. Amundson was born and raised in Iowa. He received his M.D. degree from UCSD School of Medicine. He completed a categorical medicine internship, residency and chief residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Following chief residency, he assumed the role of Assistant Director of the Internal Medicine Training Program and Director of the Mercy Clinic working with Dr. Jack Geller, the Program Director at that time. When Dr. Geller retired in 1993, Dr. Amundson accepted the position of Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and serves as a member of the ACP Regional Council. In 1997, Dr. Amundson was honored as the recipient of The Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award from the UCSD School of Medicine. In May of 1999, he was honored as the recipient of the ACP-ASIM Southern California Region 3 Teacher-of-the-Year Award. In June 2003, Dr. Amundson was honored with a Special Recognition plaque from the housestaff, hospital administration and medical education staff for his dedication as a teacher, role model, and mentor.
Ada R. Wolfsen, M.D.

Dr. Wolfsen, a native Californian, received her M.D. degree at UCLA School of Medicine. She served an internship in internal medicine at the Wadsworth VAMC. At UCLA-Harbor she completed residency training in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism. From 1973 to 1984, Dr. Wolfsen was an Associate Professor of Medicine at UCLA and UCLA-Harbor Medical Center. In 1984, she entered the private practice of internal medicine and endocrinology in the San Diego area. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism. In 1993, Dr. Wolfsen accepted the position of Associate Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Andrew C. Ping, M.D.

Dr. Ping received his M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at UCSD in 1989. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Since 1989, Dr. Ping was in private practice in internal medicine with a special interest in HIV-related disease and hospital based medicine. He also was a founding member of the Hospital Based Physician Medical Group, and has been an active member of the teaching faculty at Scripps Mercy since 1993. In January 1999, Dr. Ping accepted the position of Associate Director of Medical Education and Medical Director of the Mercy Clinic. In February 2001, Dr. Ping accepted the position of Director of the Transitional Year Program.
Steven A. Yung, M.D.

Dr. Yung received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at UCSD in 1996. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Dr.Yung is a member of the Hospital Based Physician Medical Group at Scripps Mercy Hospital providing supervision and teaching to the Scripps Mercy residents on the medicine ward. In addition, he attends two full days in the Mercy Clinic where he provides supervision and instruction to the Scripps Mercy residents. In 2003, he received the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award by the Scripps Mercy Housestaff. In July 2003, Dr. Yung accepted the position of Associate Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
